Controlling the Controllable
On Learning To Love Living
Football was my life, my outlet, and my greatest life-vehicle. I graduated from high school as the #3 OLB in the country. I went on to have an excellent career at The University of Tennessee and overcame many injuries. The year after recovering from a crucial ACL injury, I was rated the highest performing DE/OLB. Rather than entering the draft, I opted to come back for a final year. In the most anticipated game of my last year, versus Oklahoma, I suffered an Acetabulum Rim Fracture. After a long 10 month recovery, I earned a spot on the Indianapolis Colts. My dream came true. I made it to the NFL… That was short-lived by another devastating injury, my other ACL. After 7 major surgeries, “Controlling the Controllable” was the only option left.

New Identities
Since my career has ended, my new career of being the best version of myself has begun. I went back to Rocky Top and earned my MBA. I was named Alumni of the Year ’20 and earned the MBA Program Service Award. I also earned my PADI Freediving certification. In competition, I competed in the Spartan Games, Deka Fit, and numerous races. I have fallen in love with different fitness versions like yoga, running, functional fitness, and CrossFit. At 6’4, 230 pounds, I recently ran a 5:49 mile and a 19:30 5K.
